My passport came back today with a visa for Nigeria in it. What a trial it has been getting this sorted out! The High Commission required a letter of invitation from the bishop concerned, a copy of his passport, and a copy of a recent bank statement. After I applied, they also asked for a letter from my employer (which is a bit tricky, as, technically, God is my employer, not the church. I could have sent a copy of the Bible!).
I suspect that Her Majesty's government's restrictions on Nigerians coming here have something to do with just how difficult it has been getting a visa. I've never found preparing for a trip to Africa quite so awkward. It certainly doesn't make Nigeria an easy destination for would-be travellers.
My yellow fever certificate is out of date, so I'll have to get some vaccinations sorted out next. What joy!
